New Jersey offers a wide variety of golf courses for every level of golfer and every available budget. Whether you are experienced or not, finding the best value for your money is close to the top of the list when deciding on where to play your next round of golf. Some of the cheaper courses are poorly maintained, or don’t offer the challenge that you may be looking for. Bunker Hill Golf Course located in Princeton, NJ offers an excellent 18-hole round of golf for an extremely reasonable price, creating the best value golf course in the state of New Jersey.
PRICE
Before we dive into the specific golf holes that make this course what it is, let’s examine what you have to pay to play at Bunker Hill. During the week, the price for a round of golf is $36 all day ($24 if you choose to walk). On the weekend the price doesn’t increase as much as you may imagine. An early morning tee time will cost you $65, but for the late morning and early afternoon tee times the price drops to $46 ($35 walking) and then late afternoon times down to $38 ($27 walking). Bunker Hill will not hurt your pockets like many other New Jersey courses where tee times start over $100.
In general, Bunker Hill is a relatively short course. However, many holes are designed uniquely to ensure that you will have to use almost every club in your bag.
FRONT NINE
The front nine starts with a beautiful par 4, overlooking hills and some of the later holes of the course. With a corn field to the right, making sure you keep the opening drive in bounds is imperative. With a solid drive the second shot should be an easy wedge into the green. Hole 2 is a 288-yard par 4 with a similar sized fairway to hole 1. This green is very reachable for the longer hitters, and alike to hole 1, keeping the drive in bounds leads to an easy second shot. Hole 3 is the second longest hole on the course. A slight dogleg left offers slightly more challenge but is very reachable in three well struck shots. Skipping to hole 5, this is a straightforward par 4 however the elevated green presents an interesting challenge on judging the correct distance. Hole 6 is one of my favorite holes on the course, a par 3 from an elevated tee box. Finding the right club is crucial when trying to secure a good look at birdie. Hole 7 is the longest hole on the course by a few yards. The tee shot is slightly intimidating due to not being able to see the green. But once you get to your drive, you will see the green far down the slight decline, providing great views into a critical second shot. With trees on both sides there isn’t much forgiveness when attacking the green. The last hole of the front 9 presents an interesting challenge for every golfer. A creek separates this hole into two portions. For those that have confidence in their driver, have some fun and attempt to get over the creek in one shot. If your front nine is going well so far, playing conservatively and laying up in front of the creek is a great strategy with a high likelihood of producing a par to end the first nine holes.
BACK NINE
The back nine starts from an elevated tee box on a 335-yard par 4. The tee shot presents a scare when you see all of the tall grass and out of bounds area below the tee box and all along the left side of the hole. To ensure that your back nine gets off to a good start, hit the drive to the middle of the fairway and then navigate the very slight dogleg right to the green. Now hole 11 may be the most fun hole on the course. A short 281-yard par 4 gives many golfers the opportunity to drive the green. A bunker spans almost the entirety of the fairway on the left side, so there is definitely a risk/reward aspect of going for the green, but more often than not, the risks pays off. Hole 12, the third par 5, gets complicated after your tee shot. There is a lake guarding the green making It difficult to reach the green with your second shot, but the riskiest of golfers will still try to clear the lake and will be rewarded handsomely if done so successfully. Hole 15 presents the best chance at a hole and one on the course. A very short, especially from the white tees, shot onto a flat green allows for your tee shot to get quite close to the hole, giving you a chance to end your round on a very high note. Hole 16 is a dogleg left that presents intriguing options off the tee. The fun option is taking it blindly over the left trees and attempting to clear the small forest. A successful drive here will hit the hill on the downslope and get quite close to the green. After the drivable 17th hole, Bunker Hill ends with a shorter par 5 traversing over that same creek from hole 9. A long drive can sneak into the creek, but it is worth the risk if you want to reach the elevated green in two shots. This hole is a challenging yet great hole to end off your day of golf and send you home satisfied.
